Cathedral Choirs

Cathedral Choirs

The Cathedral Choir of lower voices, boy choristers and girl choristers sings the daily services, maintaining and developing the tradition of choral music at Worcester Cathedral to a professional standard with a broad repertoire spanning many centuries.

Cathedral Choir
The Cathedral Choir offers choristerships for boys and girls. The boy choristers sing the greater portion of all the sung services (5 days a week during term time) and are complemented by the girls who mainly sing services on Saturdays. Prospective choristers should normally be aged between 6 and 10 (boys) or between 12 and 15 (girls). Places are offered through a friendly audition process. Boy choristers are required to attend The King's School and are awarded a 50% bursary towards their fees for the duration of their time in the choir. The girls attend a variety of local schools and receive bursaries each term. To find out more about becoming a Cathedral chorister, please contact

Voluntary Choir
An alternative for boys is provided by the Voluntary Choir: a robed choir of boys and men which sings the 6.30pm Sunday service each week as well as making visits to other churches in the diocese and occasionally further afield. Boys with unbroken or broken voices will be considered for membership. Please contact Ed Jones for more information. 01905 732918

Deputy Singers
The Cathedral Choir is always on the lookout for capable deputy singers for when the regular lay-clerks and choral scholars are temporarily absent. A good voice, excellent musicianship and good sight-reading skills are pre-requisites to a successful application. A fee is payable each time you sing. Please contact the Music Administrator Alan Sheldon  to arrange an audition. 01905 732908

The Chamber Choir
A different and complementary choral resource is provided by the Chamber Choir of women and men, which allows singers to take part in a wider variety of concerts. The Choir also sings occasional Cathedral services. For more information please see their website
