Scheduled opening times for 2013 are from Saturday 30 March†to the end of October (weather and events permitting) on Saturdays, Bank Holidays (excluding Good Friday) and during the school spring, summer and autumn holidays from 11am - 5pm, last entry at 4.30pm.† The tower is not open on Sundays.† On some days within this period the tower is closed or only open during certain times - if you are visiting the Cathedral specifically to climb the tower please phone in advance to check opening times - 01905 732900.
All children must be able to climb independently (and not be carried) and be accompanied by a responsible adult (minimum of one adult per two children).
Charges: Adults - £4 and†children/students under 16 - £2, family - £8†
We regret that there is no access for disabled people up the tower due to the nature of the ancient and narrow spiral staircase.†The climb of the 235 steps to the top of the tower can be strenuous.
On a clear day see the spectacular†views over the city centre, River Severn, county cricket ground, Pitchcroft racecourse, Malvern Hills and countryside beyond.
The Tower†is the Cathedral's third tower. The first fell down in 1175 and the second was taken down because it was unsafe. The present tower was completed in 1374. The stone work†internally is 14th century in date but the exterior of the tower was re-faced in the 19th century as part of the Victorian restoration. The present tower was strengthened in the late 1980's /early 1990's, to ensure it is safe for the next 200 years.
During the civil war in 1651, it was said that the future King Charles II viewed the Battle of Worcester from the top of the tower.†
